We’ve received several messages from students reporting that they get an error message stating …

“This section is not available yet.”

If you see this message when trying to access an eLearning section, this means that the instructor for that class has not yet added any material to the eLearning section. Once the instructor has added content, you will then be able to access the eLearning section.

eLearning Weekly Maintenance Window

eLearning has a standing maintenance window, which is Sunday mornings between 6am and 10am CST.

This window will be the time when system upgrades and patches will be applied. The eLearning server may also be restarted as part of this maintenance. All users should be aware that their activities may experience interference or be abruptly disconnected during the maintenance window.

Spring 2012 Welcome for all Students Taking UTD Online Courses

Welcome to the Spring 2012 semester at UT Dallas! This post provides you the information to access your online course(s). All courses start on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Students will be able to access the Spring 2012 online courses on the first day of the semester. Your course(s) are located on eLearning. You will log on to your course(s) at: https://elearning.utdallas.edu.

*** Using your UTD NetID

To get your login account for an eLearning course:

1. Before you can login to your UT Dallas eLearning course(s), you need a valid UTD NetID and Password (which is assigned to you when you enroll at UTD).

2. If you are a new student, please activate your UTD NetID and Password at: http://netid.utdallas.edu.

3. If you have any problems with your NetID, please contact the IR Helpdesk at 972-883-2911 or assist@utdallas.edu.

*** Accessing your eLearning class

1. To access eLearning, go to http://elearning.utdallas.edu.

2. Click the “Check Browser” button to validate your web browser for eLearning. Please see the notes about the Pop-up Blockers and Java Security Certificate on the page.

3. Click on “Academic”.

4. Click “Log In”.

5. Enter your UTD NetID and Password into the appropriate fields. Click the “OK” button.

6. You will see a page showing a list of your eLearning classes. To enter a class, click the class title link and you will see the Course Content page.

7. If you have any problems while logged into eLearning, please contact UT Dallas’ 24/7 eLearning Helpdesk at http://www.utdallas.edu/elearninghelp.

*** Inside your eLearning class

1. The first page you see when you enter your course is the Course Content page which contains several icons.

2. The Course Menu on the left side lists all available tools and items for your class.

3. Please thoroughly read the course syllabus and then check all the areas in the course to become familiar with the features and contents of the course.

4. You can click on the “Help” menu on each course page to access help information related to that page or tool.

5. If you have any technical difficulties or need any assistance within the course site, please go to http://www.utdallas.edu/elearninghelp.

Students can access UT Dallas library electronic resources remotely with the UTD-ID number. Please see the UT Dallas library distance learning web page http://www.utdallas.edu/library/distlearn/disted.htm for information and services available to distance learning students.

Spring 2012 Training Schedule Now Up!

The eLearning training schedule for faculty is now posted. Below is a list of of workshops that will be held this semester. Notice the our latest workshop addition — “Online Course Design”. This two-hour hands-on workshop covers various aspects of course design in an online environment. Topics covered include instructional design, learning objectives, and structuring your content.

Helpdesk outage earlier today; now back up
