Blackboard Learn Selected as UTD’s New eLearning System

Blackboard Learn has been selected as the new eLearning system at the University of Texas at Dallas. Support for our current eLearning system, which is Blackboard Vista, will end in January 2013. The LMS Committee, consisting of members of the Academic Senate, Information Resources, Information Security, and UTD eLearning Team, worked with student and faculty focus groups to determine what product was best for the university. A select group of classes will pilot the new eLearning system this Summer and Fall, and all classes will move over to the new Blackboard Learn eLearning system for the Spring 2013 semester.

The new system will have a more modern look and feel, as well as improved functionality, including a mobile application and the ability to send notifications to students when updated grades, discussions and announcements are posted within the course. Darren Crone, eLearning Director: “It will reach out to students where they are via Facebook, email and text messaging.” This system will also be tablet-friendly, which is good news for iPad and Android users.
