eLearning now accessible

eLearning was brought back up at approximately 1am this morning. It has been rolled back to a backup point from Tuesday (May 22) evening. Thank you for your patience; we apologize for any issues this outage caused. If you have any questions, please contact elearning@utdallas.edu.

Early this morning, an eLearning process ran that caused significant negative impact on student data for U18 courses.  Blackboard is taking eLearning down for approximately 4-6hrs, starting ASAP, in order to restore to a 9pm Tuesday evening backup point.  We apologize profusely for any issues this causes. Please know that once this is complete, we will work with OIT to ensure that this does not happen again.

UTD Network Maintenance – eLearning Login Impacted – May 20 (Sun), 6am-noon

On Sunday, May 20th, from 6am and noon, the UTD Office of Information Technology has scheduled a maintenance window to replace network hardware that will impact users’ ability to login to eLearning. Intermittent connectivity is expected for approximately 1.5hrs, but the window of 6hrs has been reserved. If you have any questions, please contact elearning@utdallas.edu.

eLearning Upgrade Outage Scheduled – May 12 (Sat), 2:30am-2:30pm

An eLearning outage has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from 2:30am until 2:30pm.  This 12hr window will be used to upgrade eLearning. During this time, eLearning will not be available.  Once the upgrade is complete, the LMS Tech group will spend the next 48hrs updating settings, the language pack, and branding.  If you have any questions, please contact elearning@utdallas.edu.

Merge Course Tool available & Early Student Access for U18 courses


The Merge Course Tool is available in eLearning, and faculty can now use the tool to merge U18 courses. (Any courses that are officially cross-listed in Orion have been automatically merged for faculty.)

Courses will automatically become available to students the morning of the first day of the semester (May 21). If you would like your students to access your course before the first day of class, please complete the eLearning Early Course Access Form.

Recent Safari update causes problems when uploading files

Safari released an update for its web browser on March 29th that causes problems for students and faculty when attempting to upload files. Students are unable to upload files to assignments. Faculty are unable to upload files into course content areas. Blackboard is working to fix the issue as quickly as possible; however, it is recommended that users switch to Chrome or Firefox when using eLearning until the issue is resolved.

Summer 2018 Courses; Add TA/Other Users; Early Access

Summer 2018 Courses – Summer courses are now available to instructors in eLearning.  Students will be loaded one month prior to the semester start.  Summer courses, however, will not become visible to students until the first day of class (May 21st).

REMINDER: Adding Users to Your eLearning Course

Below are forms to have users added to your eLearning courses. We strongly recommend that all requests be submitted before the Summer 2018 semester begins.

INSTRUCTIONS: How to Add a TA to your eLearning Course

– Request submitted by the Instructor-Of-Record via Orion

– TA must have already completed FERPA training to be added your eLearning course.

FORM: Add a User (Other than a TA) to Your eLearning Course

– submitted by the Instructor-of-Record or Department Head
– requires justification

– will be submitted to Registrar for consideration for approval

Merged Courses

– Courses that are combined in Orion will be automatically merged in eLearning by April 21st.

– The Merge Course Tool is not yet available for Summer 2018 courses.  The LMS Tech group will turn on the tool for U18 courses by April 21st.

Opening an eLearning Course Early – If you are interested in making your Summer 2018 eLearning course available/accessible to your students prior to the first day of the semester, please complete/submit an ELEARNING COURSE EARLY ACCESS FORM.
PLEASE NOTE: Courses can be opened up to one month prior to the semester start.  So the earliest date for courses to be opened is April 21st.
